Since 1994, the Program of Computer Graphics (PCG) at Cornell has supported Internet access and hosted the World Wide Web pages of the Sciencenter in Ithaca, New York. The network infrastructure to provide this support was initially established under Ithaca's Institutional cable network for video and data communications with the asssistance of Hurf Sheldon of the PCG staff provided the primary assistance and advice to the Sciencenter, with help from PCG staff member Mitch Collinsworth.

In the words of Sciencenter Director Charles Trautmann:

"Your support and our resulting network connectivity have allowed us to maintain a leadership position among:

  1. an NSF-funded national collaborative of science museums,
  2. a national network of museums hosting work-based learning programs for underserved teens for which we operate six listservs, and
  3. a local collaborative of museums and the public library.
In addition to these external groups, the local network you helped us build has made daily operations significantly more effective than at many other non-profits we interact with on a daily basis. It is no exaggeration to say that your efforts have allowed us to maintain a position as a preferred employer in Tompkins County."

Over the summer and early fall of 2000, the Sciencenter's World Wide Web presence and Internet access have been transferred to a local Internet service provider, ClarityConnect.

The project gratefully acknowledges the support of the Hewlett Packard Corporation, for computer equipment loaned to the project, and of the National Science Foundation (NSF).
